Welcome to Acol
Art Group
The village of Acol
is situated just a few miles south of
Birchington on Sea and despite being one of the
smallest villages in Kent, we have a thriving
Art Group.
Acol Art Group Welcomes Artists of all abilities
with a range of styles and media encouraged.
The Group was formed in 1992 by Mr Ralph Martin,
a resident of the village of Acol. Under his
guidance and enthusiasm for drawing and painting
the group steadily grew in numbers as residents
of the village joined the group.
Throughout the early years of the group Ralph
continued to actively grow the membership,
inviting new members from outside of the village
to join this thriving new art club. A club where
the ethos was always to actively paint together
in an enjoyable atmosphere and where like minded
souls could exchange ideas and learn from each
other. This extended to welcoming the children
and grandchildren of members to encourage young
talent.
We currently have and
welcome members from all over
Thanet, Kent including Birchington-on-Sea,
Acol, Brooks End, Broadstairs, St
Peters, Westwood, Margate, Palm Bay,
Cliftonville, Flete, Garlinge,
Westbrook, Minster, Monkton, St
Nicholas-at-Wade, Sarre, Sevenscore,
Ramsgate, Cliffsend, Manston,
Newington and Westgate-on-Sea. |

The group held its
first full exhibition in May 2001, attracting
much acclaim from the local press. The
membership of the group was further enhanced
after amalgamating with another local group, The
Birchington Art Group. The joining of these two
groups proved to be a turning point for the
group and the membership grew to forty-five
active artists and a number of juniors. The
group now holds exhibitions every Spring and
Autumn. |
