Cafe Ramsgate, throughout December into January. Following the success of the Belgian Cafe Show,
Anthony Giles had a one man show at the Pavilion
Broadstairs. Anthony has recently been
experimenting with a change of style inspired by
'Turners' later style. (As shown below) |

Lesley Williams goes on a Winter Safari in the USA Whilst we
dealt with the Winter here in the UK Acol's
Lesley
Williams went on a trip to the
USA. |
|
"A Photography trip
in January to the USA was an awe inspiring life
time experience. A variety of large and small
wild animals and spectacular scenery provided
plenty of photographic opportunities. Both sunny
and snowy weather conditions, along with natural
settings created wonderful backdrops. Above are
two examples of photos taken by me on the trip."
Lesley Williams. Ed - "So come on Lesley, lets see some paintings? More of Lesley's paintings can be found on her gallery page. |

Charlie Smart meets
Goddess of the Gurkas! |
|
Although not a very recent snap of Charlie
rubbing shoulders with Joanna Lumley - This is
Charlie's claim to fame! He met "The Gurkha Champion" when she opened a fair at Goodnestone a few years ago. Charlie had some of his paintings in the open air exhibition there and she popped over with her beer for chat with Charlie. (Unfortunately she didn't buy a painting this time! But she thought Charlie's work was - "Absolutely Fabulous!") (Sorry could resist it!!) Some of Charlie's "AbFab" Paintings can be found in the Gallery. |

After
a recent return to painting in Oils Mike has
found fresh inspiration for a new series of
paintings in and around Ramsgate Harbour. A
place with many childhood memories of fishing,
boating and of course painting! It also happens
"The Belgian Cafe" is very close! Where Mike
enjoys to eat Mussels and drink the occasional
coffee, whilst taking in the variety of 'live
music'! "I've always enjoyed painting ships and
boats and of course the fantastic old
architecture around the harbour area, but it's
thirsty work!" Some of the paintings
completed this summer are now available from
"The Harbour Gallery" in Ramsgate. Also see - BBC News |

Acol's Turnip Centre Artists come to the rescue. |
|
The artists of Acol Art Group were recently
asked to provide some paintings for a new
residential Extra Care Sheltered Housing Scheme
belonging to ‘Orbit South Housing Association
Ltd.’ The new building “Victoria Villa” is located in Westbrook providing independent accommodation for people who need support and care. Equipped with state-of-the-art assistive technology. Jill Larcombe “Victoria Villa Manager” contacted the group’s secretary Mike Samson and asked if the Acol artists possibly had any spare paintings to help decorate the walls? Mike put out an urgent appeal to the group via telephone and email to explain the situation. Within just three days a total of 160 paintings were gathered up and many members arrived at “Victoria Villa” armed with hammers and hooks and promptly got to work to decorate the three floors, corridors and main reception area with a display worthy of any gallery! Commenting on the response Mike said, “ I was amazed by the response of the group and the great community spirit. I had told Jill we were due to hold our own exhibition at Acol the following weekend so we may possibly struggle to achieve fifty works. So to have 160 turn up was just outstanding! Not only were the artists happy to loan their paintings, they have generously given their time to help display the work. I’m sure we will continue to assist Jill and provide artwork for the pleasure of the residents and staff well into the future.” The Group’s Chairman Norman Chidwick said, “ We as a group feel very honoured to have been asked to provide paintings for such a good cause.” |
